Hello from Deeps, Dude and Daughter :o)
So today started at 8am with a jolt of excitment at the idea of our trip to Sandusky, Ohio to brave the water park at Kalahari Resort. As everyone reads from a past post we had stopped here and tried the Monkey Bite desert and we knew we would venture this way again. Since Ray is on vacation and I am on a weeks time off we wanted to take Sunday & Monday as a getaway adventure with our daughter back to this wonderfully huge water playground!!
Of course not only was the water park the reason for our trip but also the dining experience of the new and unexpected menus that we perused during the time between our last voyage this way and yesterday :o) We arrived here at lunchtime, so we got our room key, grabbed our luggage from the car and decided to try the Pizza at the Cafe Mirage. It was the All Meat Pizza... 14" with Pepperoni, Bacon, Ham, Sausage, and Beef which was an ooey-gooey-cheesy deliciousness. After we let that settle we headed back to our room, The African Queen Suite to change into our suits and get wet at the water park!!
Several hours later we decided to head back to the room and change for dinner. We ended up going to The Reserve at Kalahari Restaurant & Bar for our dining experience. We were greeted with a smile and kindness and seated very quickly. The atmosphere was very relaxing and the staff were all pleasant and helpful. Our Server was Stacey who explained and suggested items on the menu. I have to add that I do not drink but decided to have a fruity "adult" drink and when aasking Stacey what they had she said Strawberry Daquiri and I was like, Oh Yeah!
For our starter we ordered the Sunrise Ahi which is "Sesame seed firecracker spiced, seared rare, sushi grade ahi (tuna). Accompanied by crisp papaya slaw, Asian lemon-lime vinagrette, wasabi, pickled ginger and pepper powdered crisp won ton." Daughter and I never had tuna (unless it's that can-opened kind) so of course we were on a dining excursion so we through caution to the wind and said, "Sunrise Ahi!"
For the main course Daughter had the Classic Pomodoro which was "Angel hair tossed with extra virgin olive oil, chopped garlic (oy!! how can you go wrong with that?!??), Italian tomatoes, chardonnay, tomato classico, fresh basil, and sweet butter. topped with freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano with added chicken." Just reading that makes my mouth water! Daughter gave it two thumbs up :o)
Dude, who is not too much into Filet Mignon decided to try the African Queen (look at that pic!! Does that not say Adventure??!?) which was "filet mignon chargrilled, draped with sauce bearnaise, crowned with applewood smoked bacon wrapped fresh sea scallops and set atop a throne of five-cheese ravioli in a cream sauce of fresh spinach, artichoke hearts, Parmesan and Swiss cheeses." He ordered in medium well and when he cut into it, it was just right!!
I, Deeps, had the Kuku Boom! (Mushroom Chicken). Now I know chicken sounds like a safe choice but how can the name be safe?? Kuku Boom!! which was "Sauteed chicken breast glazed with Swiss fontina cheese and wild mushroom Maderia sauce and accompanied by fresh asparagus and corn chowder mashed potatoes." It was very delicious and the corn chowder smashed potatoes were spectabulously unexpected gooey goodness!! I'm not to much into chowders but that is what actually turned me on to it!
Now we were stuffed to the gilly-whompers (as Dude often describes as total fullness of the gut) but we had to stop at Java Manjaro to get some kawfee and get desserts to take back to the room. Daughter got a cheesecake with whipped cream and white-chocolate topper painted with blue etible paint and Dude and I shared a Peanut Butter Sinful delight with a chocolate wrapped shell, envolping a bottom layer of peanuts, topped with chocolate cake, topped with peanut butter mousse topped with a dark and white chocolate topper. Both were wonderfully a shock to our systems.
So now we are relaxing in our suite, pleasantly full and tired from our water adventures throughout the day. Have a wonderful night and until the next time we tell of our explorations.... Sweet Dreams!!
