Hello from Deeps, Dude and Daughter :o)
So today started at 8am with a jolt of excitment at the idea of our trip to Sandusky, Ohio to brave the water park at Kalahari Resort. As everyone reads from a past post we had stopped here and tried the Monkey Bite desert and we knew we would venture this way again. Since Ray is on vacation and I am on a weeks time off we wanted to take Sunday & Monday as a getaway adventure with our daughter back to this wonderfully huge water playground!!
Of course not only was the water park the reason for our trip but also the dining experience of the new and unexpected menus that we perused during the time between our last voyage this way and yesterday :o) We arrived here at lunchtime, so we got our room key, grabbed our luggage from the car and decided to try the Pizza at the Cafe Mirage. It was the All Meat Pizza... 14" with Pepperoni, Bacon, Ham, Sausage, and Beef which was an ooey-gooey-cheesy deliciousness. After we let that settle we headed back to our room, The African Queen Suite to change into our suits and get wet at the water park!!
Several hours later we decided to head back to the room and change for dinner. We ended up going to The Reserve at Kalahari Restaurant & Bar for our dining experience. We were greeted with a smile and kindness and seated very quickly. The atmosphere was very relaxing and the staff were all pleasant and helpful. Our Server was Stacey who explained and suggested items on the menu. I have to add that I do not drink but decided to have a fruity "adult" drink and when aasking Stacey what they had she said Strawberry Daquiri and I was like, Oh Yeah!
For our starter we ordered the Sunrise Ahi which is "Sesame seed firecracker spiced, seared rare, sushi grade ahi (tuna). Accompanied by crisp papaya slaw, Asian lemon-lime vinagrette, wasabi, pickled ginger and pepper powdered crisp won ton." Daughter and I never had tuna (unless it's that can-opened kind) so of course we were on a dining excursion so we through caution to the wind and said, "Sunrise Ahi!"
For the main course Daughter had the Classic Pomodoro which was "Angel hair tossed with extra virgin olive oil, chopped garlic (oy!! how can you go wrong with that?!??), Italian tomatoes, chardonnay, tomato classico, fresh basil, and sweet butter. topped with freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano with added chicken." Just reading that makes my mouth water! Daughter gave it two thumbs up :o)
Dude, who is not too much into Filet Mignon decided to try the African Queen (look at that pic!! Does that not say Adventure??!?) which was "filet mignon chargrilled, draped with sauce bearnaise, crowned with applewood smoked bacon wrapped fresh sea scallops and set atop a throne of five-cheese ravioli in a cream sauce of fresh spinach, artichoke hearts, Parmesan and Swiss cheeses." He ordered in medium well and when he cut into it, it was just right!!
I, Deeps, had the Kuku Boom! (Mushroom Chicken). Now I know chicken sounds like a safe choice but how can the name be safe?? Kuku Boom!! which was "Sauteed chicken breast glazed with Swiss fontina cheese and wild mushroom Maderia sauce and accompanied by fresh asparagus and corn chowder mashed potatoes." It was very delicious and the corn chowder smashed potatoes were spectabulously unexpected gooey goodness!! I'm not to much into chowders but that is what actually turned me on to it!
Now we were stuffed to the gilly-whompers (as Dude often describes as total fullness of the gut) but we had to stop at Java Manjaro to get some kawfee and get desserts to take back to the room. Daughter got a cheesecake with whipped cream and white-chocolate topper painted with blue etible paint and Dude and I shared a Peanut Butter Sinful delight with a chocolate wrapped shell, envolping a bottom layer of peanuts, topped with chocolate cake, topped with peanut butter mousse topped with a dark and white chocolate topper. Both were wonderfully a shock to our systems.
So now we are relaxing in our suite, pleasantly full and tired from our water adventures throughout the day. Have a wonderful night and until the next time we tell of our explorations.... Sweet Dreams!!

Michael Symons B Spot
This weekend Deeps and I sorta just took it easy.We went to Deep's mom and dads for a cook-out on Labor day.Deep's mom grilled up some very tasty steaks along with some baked beans and potato salad. This meal was as good as any place we have visted and I always enjoy eating at Deep's parents as mom always trys to stuff me to the gilleywompers with food.Since we didnt stop and visit any place this weekend I thought I would review one of our favorite places to eat. Michael Symon's B Spot. If you are looking for a great burger this is the spot.Deeps usually has the Lola. A burger with fried egg, bacon, pickled red onions, cheddar and mayo. This isnt just a burger its a meal.I have tried several of the burgers but my favorite sandwich at B Spot is the New School. A fried bologna with Russian dressing, pickled onions, sweet hot pickles, fried egg. This is not the fried bologna your mom served you as a kid but a whole new twist on a classic. Just take a look at the picture and you will see what Im talking about. If you like wings then you cant go wrong with either the roasted garlic & parm or the lime & cilantro.Deeps and I have tried them both and they are yummy. One last thing while you are waiting for your food make sure to check out the wall of cans that makes out the B Spot logo. All of the cans are beer cans but one. A Diet coke can is hidden in there somewhere see if you can find it.I would tell you where it is but that would ruin the fun.

Rusty Bucket Restaurant and Tavern
Hello again from Deeps!
This weekend was a lay-low and relax kinda weekend so we decided to travel closer to home compared to our normal one-tank adventures. We spent most of our weekend with family beginning with a bar-b-que at my bro and sis-in-law's place followed by time with the aunt and uncle :) After spending the early afternoon with the Aunt and Uncle we decided to turn on the GPS and find anything with an interesting name.... So, yeah, nothing sounds more mom-and-pop than the Rusty Bucket which popped up fourth closest spot on our GPS but don't let the name decieve you!! Located in Solon, Ohio in the Borders Plaza this pub-like establishment serves lunch and dinner daily and pretty darn good eats! I do have to admit the name sounded familiar but it did not click until we arrived @ the Rusty Bucket Restaurant and Tavern. Me and my female parental unit (also know as M.O.M.) had eaten at the Rusty Bucket last year and I knew that the food was decent from that experience but it's never a problem to eat at the same place more then once!
From the time we were seated to the time of paying the bill, the service was great and our waitress, Kelly was kind and pleasant. It was also nice to have the manager, we believe it was Eric, stop over and ask how our meals were!
There was quite a few items on the menu that sound wonderful and if they had a sampler plate with a bite of everything I would've been the first to sign up for that!! We ended up starting with the Deep-Fried Pickles, which both Dude and I agree that by far have been the best we've had. Steaming hot with such a nice crunchy coating and ranch dressing to dip them in was a great start and we could not wait to get to our main course!! My biggest thing lately is to try things I would normally not make at home (or rather too time consuming to make so why not let another create it for me!! LOL!) Anywho! I had the Pesto Chicken Pasta which is "spaghetti sauteed w/garlic, white wine, olive oil, fresh baby spinach, mushrooms & oven roasted tomatoes topped w/a pesto marinated chicken breast & served w/toasted garlic cheese bread." OMG! Yummmmmmmy!!! Dude had the Sunday Blue Plate Special - Bucket Hot Brown which is "house roasted turkey breast, thinly sliced & piled high on Texas toast, covered w/a creamy parmesan sauce & topped w/sliced tomato and bacon." I was able to get Dude to give me a taste and boy-oh-boy! I would order it in a heartbeat if in the neighborhood on a Sunday in the future!! Dude told me that it was just like the staple food from Kentucky, served a little differently, but pretty close to the Kentucky classic favorite!! Dude gives it two thumbs up and will order it again! Coming from Dude, who does not like tomatoes and this meal had two hankering slices and ate the tomatoes and liked it.... I almost wanted to take a picture of him eating them since it's so rare for him that I felt proof was needed!!

Kalahari Resort
Hello from the Dude ! ! !
You would never think of going to a water park/resort for ice cream but thats what we ended up doing. Deeps and I where on our way home from Tony Packo's and taking the scenic route home we were driving on route 2 when we saw the sign for Kalahari Water Park and Resort. I told Deeps they had a pretty good candy store and we should stop there. So we made a detour from our way home to stop for candy. When we got there we decided to go for the ice cream. We ended up getting a Monkey split which was a scoop of Chocolate, Strawberry and Vanilla ice cream covered with whipped cream, peanuts, bananas, chocolate syrup and sliced strawberries it was huge and well worth the $6.50 price tag.sometime you just need to go off the beaten path to find a dinning adventure.

Tony Packo's - Packo's at the Park
Greetings from Deeps and Dude!
Today's eating adventure took us to Toledo, Ohio! It took about two-and-a-half hours to get there from Akron but it was well worth the leisurely travel time with my man :) We had an idea of where we wanted to go but wasn't quite sure how to get there... We didn't want to take the Turnpike (that would've been kinda boring) so we just got on the freeway and headed West. We went to out original planned place - Tony Packo's! Hungarian eats which was delicious :) I had the Chicken Chili for my appetizer, then the Cabbage Combo #1 which was beef, pork, and rice wrapped in a cabbage leaf. Dude had the Bunker Buster Combo which is a M.O.A.D. (Mother Of All Dogs) a Hungarian Foot-Long hot dog with chili, onion, and cheese, a bowl of chili, and a side of Mash Potatoes with Gravy. Both were extrememly good! Service was excellent with the order arriving quickly and with a friendly smile. The whole meal was under $35 and we plan on returnng in the future possibly going to a Mudhen's game and dining at Tony Packo's.

Steel Trolley Diner
Hello from Me, Deeps and my Handsome Man, Dude!
This evenings adventure took us to Lisbon, Ohio where we enjoyed dinner at the Steel Trolley Diner. The experience was well worth the hour drive from Akron :) The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming and we parked our butts in a booth towards the back to enjoy our usual people watching. We were greeted warmly by the staff and to look at the menu was an adventure of it's own with such a variety of unique flavors ranging from hot dogs to burgers to salads to old fashioned soda fountain treats to even vegetarian eats.We started our meal with an appetizer of Deep Fried Dill Pickels If you have never tried these and like dill pickels you don't know what you are missing. For dinner I, Deeps, had the Polamalu Burger which is a 1/2 lb burger topped with homemade sweet-n-sour sauce, grilled onions, and a grilled pineapple ring - Yummmmy!! Dude had the O'Mahoney Burger which is a combination burger and Reuben. We split a basket of Pizza Fries.... these could have been a meal on their own with loads of fries topped with Marinara sauce and Provolone Cheese. We ended up not able to finish all of them.
Over all, we definetly will be returning to the Steel Trolley Diner to explore the many items that are left to try. With the friendly service, the eclectic group ranging from the very young to the young at heart, and the personable personality of our waitress made both Dude and I feel like one of the family.
