Rusty Bucket Restaurant and Tavern


Hello again from Deeps!

This weekend was a lay-low and relax kinda weekend so we decided to travel closer to home compared to our normal one-tank adventures.  We spent most of our weekend with family beginning with a bar-b-que at my bro and sis-in-law's place followed by time with the aunt and uncle :)  After spending the early afternoon with the Aunt and Uncle we decided to turn on the GPS and find anything with an interesting name....  So, yeah, nothing sounds more mom-and-pop than the Rusty Bucket which popped up fourth closest spot on our GPS but don't let the name decieve you!!  Located in Solon, Ohio in the Borders Plaza this pub-like establishment serves lunch and dinner daily and pretty darn good eats!  I do have to admit the name sounded familiar but it did not click until we arrived @ the Rusty Bucket Restaurant and Tavern.  Me and my female parental unit (also know as M.O.M.) had eaten at the Rusty Bucket last year and I knew that the food was decent from that experience but it's never a problem to eat at the same place more then once!

From the time we were seated to the time of paying the bill, the service was great and our waitress, Kelly was kind and pleasant.  It was also nice to have the manager, we believe it was Eric, stop over and ask how our meals were!

There was quite a few items on the menu that sound wonderful and if they had a sampler plate with a bite of everything I would've been the first to sign up for that!!  We ended up starting with the Deep-Fried Pickles, which both Dude and I agree that by far have been the best we've had.  Steaming hot with such a nice crunchy coating and ranch dressing to dip them in was a great start and we could not wait to get to our main course!!  My biggest thing lately is to try things I would normally not make at home (or rather too time consuming to make so why not let another create it for me!! LOL!)  Anywho!  I had the Pesto Chicken Pasta which is "spaghetti sauteed w/garlic, white wine, olive oil, fresh baby spinach, mushrooms & oven roasted tomatoes topped w/a pesto marinated chicken breast & served w/toasted garlic cheese bread."  OMG!  Yummmmmmmy!!!     Dude had the Sunday Blue Plate Special - Bucket Hot Brown which is "house roasted turkey breast, thinly sliced & piled high on Texas toast, covered w/a creamy parmesan sauce & topped w/sliced tomato and bacon."  I was able to get Dude to give me a taste and boy-oh-boy!  I would order it in a heartbeat if in the neighborhood on a Sunday in the future!!  Dude told me that it was just like the staple food from Kentucky, served a little differently, but pretty close to the Kentucky classic favorite!!  Dude gives it two thumbs up and will order it again!  Coming from Dude, who does not like tomatoes and this meal had two hankering slices and ate the tomatoes and liked it.... I almost wanted to take a picture of him eating them since it's so rare for him that I felt proof was needed!!

Kalahari Resort

Hello from the Dude ! ! !

You would never think of going to a water park/resort for ice cream  but thats what we ended up doing. Deeps and I where on our way home from Tony Packo's and taking the scenic route home we were driving on route 2 when we saw the sign for Kalahari Water Park and Resort. I told Deeps they had a pretty good candy store and we should stop there. So we made a detour from our way home to stop for candy.When we got there we decided to go for the ice cream. We ended up getting a Monkey split which was a scoop of Chocolate, Strawberry and Vanilla ice cream covered with whipped cream, peanuts, bananas,chocolate syrup and sliced strawberries it was huge and well worth the $6.50 price tag.sometime you just need to go off the beaten path to find a dinning adventure.

Tony Packo's - Packo's at the Park

Greetings from Deeps and Dude!

Today's eating adventure took us to Toledo, Ohio!  It took about two-and-a-half hours to get there from Akron but it was well worth the leisurely travel time with my man :)  We had an idea of where we wanted to go but wasn't quite sure how to get there... We didn't want to take the Turnpike (that would've been kinda boring) so we just got on the freeway and headed West.  We went to out original planned place - Tony Packo's!  Hungarian eats which was delicious :)  I had the Chicken Chili for my appetizer, then the Cabbage Combo #1 which was beef, pork, and rice wrapped in a cabbage leaf.  Dude had the Bunker Buster Combo which is a M.O.A.D. (Mother Of All Dogs) a Hungarian Foot-Long hot dog with chili, onion, and cheese, a bowl of chili, and a side of Mash Potatoes with Gravy.  Both were extrememly good!  Service was excellent with the order arriving quickly and with a friendly smile.  The whole meal was under $35 and we plan on returnng in the future possibly going to a Mudhen's game and dining at Tony Packo's.

Steel Trolley Diner

Hello from Me, Deeps and my Handsome Man, Dude!

This evenings adventure took us to Lisbon, Ohio where we enjoyed dinner at the Steel Trolley Diner.  The experience was well worth the hour drive from Akron :)  The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming and we parked our butts in a booth towards the back to enjoy our usual people watching.  We were greeted warmly by the staff and to look at the menu was an adventure of it's own with such a variety of unique flavors ranging from hot dogs to burgers to salads to old fashioned soda fountain treats to even vegetarian eats.We started our meal with an appetizer of Deep Fried Dill Pickels If you have never tried these and like dill pickels you don't know what you are missing.For dinner I, Deeps, had the Polamalu Burger which is a 1/2 lb burger topped with homemade sweet-n-sour sauce, grilled onions, and a grilled pineapple ring - Yummmmy!!  Dude had the O'Mahoney Burger which is a combination burger and Reuben.  We split a basket of Pizza Fries.... these could have been a meal on their own with loads of fries topped with Marinara sauce and Provolone Cheese.  We ended up not able to finish all of them.

Over all, we definetly will be returning to the Steel Trolley Diner to explore the many items that are left to try.  With the friendly service, the eclectic group ranging from the very young to the young at heart, and the personable personality of our waitress made both Dude and I feel like one of the family.

Jubilee Donuts

Above is a giant donut made for our daughter for her birthday.The donut was made by Jubilee Donuts in Cuyahoga Falls Ohio. If you are in the Akron Area and are hungry for some of the best donuts you can find I would recommend you stop in and try one of the cream sticks or an apple fritter

Lance's Port & Pub

Went to Lance's Port and Pub on our honeymoon.Deeps and I were doing one of our drive till we get lost Sundays. We were driving around East Liverpool Ohio when we decided to find a place to eat.We turned on the GPS and entered the find all food category. Lance's Port and Pub came up as being close and since our last name is Lance we decided to stop there. The food was good and the portions were good sized Deeps and I both had the Lance's Linguine. the Prices were reasonable.The staff  was friendly and the owner was great.I asked if i could get one of the golf shirts from the pub he offered to sell me the one he just ordered for himself. We will be sure to stop here again on our travels
